Region Alert's Tajikistan Daily Sitrep assesses the Region Alert Threat Index at HIGH as of June 8, 2026. Severe mudslide and flood risks currently threaten Khatlon Province, including the Muminabad-Kulob corridor. On June 4, regional media reported the deaths of two teenagers in a mudslide in neighboring Shamsiddin Shohin district, approximately 30km from Muminabad. The Tajikistan Agency for Hydrometeorology has issued active mudslide warnings for Khatlon through June 8 due to heavy upstream rains. NGO staff should suspend non-essential travel on rural dirt roads until the weather system passes. Regional tensions from the US-Iran conflict continue to impact logistics and evacuation planning. Russia has banned aviation fuel exports until November 30, which may disrupt commercial flights out of Dushanbe International Airport. Meanwhile, commercial flights between Tehran and Dushanbe resumed on May 31, though regional airspace remains volatile due to ongoing drone and missile threats. Government surveillance and strict enforcement of social norms remain high. On June 5, eight individuals were arrested in Baljuvon (~50km from Muminabad) for allegedly setting fire to a prosecutor's bedroom. Additionally, multiple citizens have been arrested for 'immoral acts' or 'insulting national currency,' indicating a heightened state of domestic policing. This enforcement pattern applies to ALL non-state-sanctioned religious expression, including Christian worship.
