Region Alert's Tajikistan Daily Sitrep assesses the Region Alert Threat Index at HIGH as of June 10, 2026. Severe weather and fatal mudslides remain the primary operational threat in Khatlon Province. On June 8, regional media reported the death of a 52-year-old man in Panj district (~120km from Muminabad) due to a mudslide that also destroyed equipment. This follows the deaths of two teenagers in Shamsiddin Shohin district (~30km from Muminabad) on June 3, confirmed by the Committee of Emergency Situations. NGO staff should suspend non-essential travel on rural dirt roads until the weather system fully passes. Domestic policing and surveillance are highly aggressive. Authorities recently arrested eight individuals in Baljuvon (~50km from Muminabad) for allegedly setting fire to a prosecutor's bedroom. Additionally, multiple bloggers and citizens have been arrested for 'immoral acts' or insulting the national currency. This enforcement pattern applies to ALL non-state-sanctioned religious expression, including Christian worship. Regional tensions continue to impact logistics. Russia has banned aviation fuel exports until November 30, which may disrupt commercial flights out of Dushanbe International Airport. Meanwhile, Tajikistan and Pakistan publicly expressed concern over 25 armed militant groups operating in Afghanistan, though the Taliban denied these claims.
