Region Alert's Tajikistan Daily Sitrep assesses the Region Alert Threat Index at HIGH as of June 11, 2026. Severe weather and fatal mudslides remain the primary operational threat in Khatlon Province. On June 8, regional media reported the death of a 52-year-old man in Panj district (~120km from Muminabad) due to a mudslide that also destroyed equipment. With 5.4mm of rain forecast for Muminabad today, NGO staff should suspend non-essential travel on rural dirt roads until the weather system fully passes. Religious persecution and aggressive domestic policing continue to escalate. On June 9, regional media reported that an 18-year-old in Abdurahmoni Jomi district (~100km from Muminabad) was sentenced to seven years in prison for alleged Salafi ties. Authorities also arrested multiple bloggers for 'immoral acts' and disrespecting the national currency. This enforcement pattern applies to ALL non-state-sanctioned religious expression, including Christian worship. Regional tensions continue to impact logistics and border security. Russia's ban on aviation fuel exports until November 30 remains a concern for commercial flights out of Dushanbe International Airport. Meanwhile, Tajikistan and Pakistan publicly expressed concern over 25 armed militant groups operating in Afghanistan, though the Taliban denied these claims.
